TEAM NEWS…
Winger Festy Ebosele will continue to have his fitness monitored right up to kick-off after being named as a substitute for last Saturday’s 4-1 loss at Middlesbrough with a minor hamstring issue.
Defender Lee Buchanan, who has recently returned from a spell out of action with a knee injury, has a minor knock and is a doubt for the meeting with Darren Ferguson’s side.
Defender Richard Stearman will miss out once more as he serves the final match of his three-match suspension following his red card in Derby's 2-0 defeat at Huddersfield Town at the start of this month.
Striker Colin Kazim-Richards won't feature in the matchday squad after suffering a calf injury in training recently but is close to returning to full training
Winger Kamil Jozwiak will again miss out with an ankle injury sustained in the 2-2 draw at home to Birmingham City at the end of January. The Poland international is expected to be out of action for several weeks.
MANAGER'S THOUGHTS…
Manager Wayne Rooney offered his pre-match views to RamsTV and he said: “This is a big game for us.
“We know a win will take us above Peterborough, so it’s a huge match and one where we have had a full week to prepare for it.
“As I keep saying, we take one game at a time and we know Peterborough will bring fight and energy and looking at it from their point of view, they can move six points clear of us with a win themselves.
“We know it’s going to be a difficult game and we will do everything we can to get three points in front of our home fans.
“Our
form at Pride Park has been good all season and the next two matches,
against Peterborough and Millwall on Wednesday are big for us, with them
both being at home.
“If ever we need the fans, it is on Saturday. We need them there right behind the team and vocal for the whole 90 minutes. The support has been great all season but on Saturday we really need them.”
FROM THE DRESSING ROOM…
Midfielder Max Bird spoke to RamsTV at Moor Farm Training Ground as the Rams prepare for the first of back-to-back home matches
He said: “Saturday is a huge game for us.
“We have had low points in the season, we have had very high points as well and we know Saturday is a big game.
“Last Saturday against Middlesbrough, when we lost 4-1, we weren’t at our best and there are bits that we have looked back on before training, but I think the lads are all ready for it.
“We all believe in each other and the staff are giving us a lot of belief that they know that we can get the job done.”
MATCH OFFICIALS…
James Linington will oversee Saturday afternoon's game at Pride Park.
Linington has overseen 20 games so far this season in all competitions, showing 88 yellow cards and two red cards.
His last match featuring the Rams was the 1-0 home win over West Bromwich Albion in December.
He will be assisted by Mark Russell and Robert Merchant on the lines, whilst James Bell has been appointed as the fourth official.
EFL SUBSTITUTE RULES…
The five substitutions rule has been scrapped for the 2021/22 season, the English Football League confirmed in July.
The rule allowing clubs to make five changes, as opposed to the usual three, was brought in following football's restart in June 2020 after a break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Given that games had to be condensed into a short period of time it was thought beneficial and allowed managers to make as many as five changes in three intervals during a match.
Clubs had a longer post-break between seasons this time around and so the temporary rule has been changed.
Teams will be able to name seven substitutes but only use a maximum of three.
