Derby County have today completed the signing of attacking midfielder Ravel Morrison, subject to international clearance.
The Jamaican international has signed a one-year contract which will run until the summer of 2022.
The 28-year-old was at Pride Park Stadium this afternoon to put pen-to-paper and he will take in Derby’s opening fixture of the 2021/22 Sky Bet Championship season against Huddersfield Town from the stands (3pm kick-off).
Morrison, like free agents Curtis Davies, Richard Stearman and Ryan Allsop who also signed one-year contracts yesterday, has been training with Wayne Rooney’s squad since the early stages of pre-season in July.
He impressed in a handful of friendly matches, featuring against Manchester United, Salford City and Real Betis, with Rooney keen to make him a permanent member of his squad.
The attack-minded midfielder began his playing career at his hometown club Manchester United after coming through their youth system.
After making three first-team appearances for the Red Devils, Morrison moved south to join West Ham United in 2012.
Loan spells at Birmingham City, Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City followed ahead of a transfer to Italian side Lazio in 2015.
Morrison had loan stints back at Queens Park Rangers and with Mexican side Atlas Fútbol Club, prior to sealing a permanent switch to Swedish side Östersunds FK in 2019.
He returned to England with Sheffield United in the Premier League for the 2019/20 season, while he also had a brief loan spell at Middlesbrough during the same campaign.
Morrison’s next stop, for the 2020/21 season, saw him once again move abroad, this time in Holland, to play for ADO Den Haag prior to becoming a free agent earlier this year.
On the international stage, Morrison represented England at youth international level but also qualifies to play for Jamaica and he has picked up three senior caps.
He made his international bow against Saudi Arabia in November 2020 and his most recent cap came in June of this year in a 1-1 friendly draw against Serbia.
