Defender Craig Forsyth believes Saturday’s victory over Millwall is something to build on as Derby County travel to the capital once again on Wednesday, this time to face Brentford.
The Rams managed to register their first win since the start of October on Saturday as Jason Knight’s second half goal secured Wayne Rooney’s side all three points in a 1-0 win at The Den.
The victory meant that the Rams have taken five points from their last three games as they continue to climb the Sky Bet Championship table.
But Wednesday will pose another test as Derby face an in-form Brentford who were beaten in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final by Fulham in the summer.
The Bees have won three and drawn two of their last five games and they boast the league’s joint-top goalscorer in their ranks as Ivan Toney sits alongside Blackburn Rovers’ Adam Armstrong with 14 league goals.
And Forsyth, who had a hand in Knight’s goal on Saturday, knows Derby need to continue to show improvements as they face Thomas Franks’s side.
“It has been long overdue,” he admitted when reflecting on the win at Millwall when talking to RamsTV ahead of Wednesday’s game.
“We all know that it has not been good enough from every single person this season, so to get that three points on Saturday, especially away at Millwall which is a tough place to go to, it is a big three points. It gives everyone a bit of confidence and hopefully we can build on that.
“It will be another really tough game at Brentford. They are obviously at their new stadium and their fans are back as well, so I am sure they will be out to impress.
“But we’ve got to keep that hard working and sort of dogged performance that we saw on Saturday. If we do that, we will have a chance.”
The Bees, who sit just inside the Play-Off spots at this early stage of the season, welcomed back supporters to the stadium on Saturday.
Two thousand Brentford supporters were allowed in for the very first time and witnessed their 2-2 draw against Blackburn Rovers.
The game against Derby will only be their second at their new stadium in front of supporters and Forsyth is looking forward to the trip.
“I hope the changing rooms are better than the last ones at Griffin Park anyway!” he joked. “It’s somewhere new to play and on Saturday at Millwall with fans, I personally felt it makes a lot of difference.
“We spoke about it after on the way home and saying it does make a difference. No matter what you say that it shouldn’t, deep down, I think it does make a difference.”
