Wayne Rooney says there is a good feeling in the Derby County camp going into the October international break.
Rooney’s late goal handed Derby their first points of the 2020/21 Sky Bet Championship season on Saturday in a 1-0 victory at Norwich City.
Phillip Cocu’s side produced a disciplined display against the Canaries as they sought to address a run of three successive league losses to start the campaign.
Rooney’s class proved to be the difference on the day as he curled a delightful free-kick into the top corner from 20 yards out with just three minutes remaining.
Now their season is up and running, the 34-year-old former England international admits there is a positive vibe in the dressing room going into the two-week gap without a competitive fixture.
Rooney told RamsTV after the game at Carrow Road: “I think it is nice going into the international break off the back of getting three points.
“It is also a shame it has come now, because it would be nice if we had a game in three days’ time to kick on again.
“You can look at it both ways. The most important thing (on Saturday) was coming away with a good performance and three points.”
He added: “We have a bit of time now to put some more work in and also have a bit of rest as well before the games start again.”
Derby return to Championship action on Friday 16th October (7:45pm kick-off) against Watford at Pride Park Stadium.
