Derby County are back in action at Pride Park Stadium on Tuesday night when they face fellow Sky Bet Championship rivals Preston North End in the Second Round of the Carabao Cup (6:30pm kick-off).
The winners of the Second Round tie will face a Third Round encounter on home turf against either Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion or League 1 outfit Portsmouth next week.
Derby will look to maintain their impressive record against Preston under the Pride Park floodlights, having won both of last season's league meetings between the sides 1-0.

TEAM NEWS…
New signing Nathan Byrne is unavailable for selection as he is cup-tied after playing in the First Round of the Carabao Cup for Wigan Athletic earlier this month, prior to moving to Derby for an undisclosed fee.
Skipper Wayne Rooney could get match minutes under his belt after returning from injury as a substitute in the Rams’ opening day defeat to Reading on Saturday.
Martyn Waghorn and Duane Holmes remain sidelined with muscle injuries, while Tom Lawrence (shoulder) and Krystian Bielik (knee) are out of action despite progressing well in their rehabilitation programmes.
Manager Phillip Cocu has no other new injury concerns and may look to shuffle his pack and give those who didn’t start, or were not in the matchday squad, against Reading the chance to get match minutes.
PRE-MATCH THOUGHTS…
Speaking to RamsTV ahead of Tuesday's cup tie, Derby's Head Goalkeeping Coach Shay Given said: “In any game and in any competition, you want to win. That is the bottom line, you want to win and move on to the next game.
“If we can do that, then it means everyone would come in on Wednesday and Thursday in a really good mood, in a positive frame of mind ahead of our game at Luton on Saturday in the league, and change the feeling we had after Saturday against Reading.
“That
is just the natural human nature side of losing a game of football, you
feel disappointed. We want to bounce back now; we want to beat Preston
and we want to move on to the next round.”
He added: “We have to get on some sort of roll and be consistent throughout the season. The games are going to come thick and fast - normally the Championship is quite hectic as it is and now this season is going to be even more hectic.
“That is why the squad will be important both in the league and in the cups and we have to use that as best we can to get the results we want.”
More pre-match comments from Given, and midfielder Louie Sibley, can be found across dcfc.co.uk and also on RamsTV.
COMPETITION FORMAT…
All Carabao Cup First Round-Fifth Round matches shall be of
90 minutes’ duration and in the event of the scores being level at the end of
90 minutes, no extra time shall be played and the winners shall be determined
by penalty kicks in the traditional ABAB format.
GOAL LINE TECHNOLOGY…
Goal line technology will be used where a stadium has it
installed, with Pride Park Stadium having the relevant software in
place during recent seasons.
WHO’S THE MAN IN THE MIDDLE…
Andy Davies will be the man in the
middle at Pride Park Stadium on Tuesday night.
Davies oversaw 29 games in total during the 2019/20 campaign - recording 96 yellow cards and three reds overall - while he has also taken charge of two matches so far this season in the EFL Trophy and League One, showing three yellows and one red card.
His last Derby match was
the 3-2 defeat at Luton Town back in January of this year, while his
last fixture at Pride Park was the 4-0 home win over Bolton Wanderers in
April 2019.
Davies will be assisted by Steven Meredith and Adam Crysell on the lines, whilst Mark Dwyer has been appointed as the fourth official.
FIRST ROUND RECAP…
Derby’s Carabao Cup First Round tie against League 2 newcomers Barrow AFC earlier this month was decided by penalties.
A 0-0 draw at Pride Park after 90 minutes saw the game go to spot-kicks, with the Rams running out 3-2 winners.
Goalkeeper Kelle Roos was the star of the show as he saved three penalties, while George Evans, Graeme Shinnie and Morgan Whittaker were successful from the spot for Phillip Cocu’s side.
WATCH FROM HOME…
Derby County is continuing to urge supporters to stay away from stadiums when matches are played, with the UK Government advice remaining the same relating to playing behind-closed-doors at this time.
Matches are still being played behind closed doors with the safety of supporters, club personnel and the frontline services remaining the principle priority at this time.
Consequently, supporters will not be permitted entry to any area of stadiums and extra security measures around the immediate area, including car parks, will be in place when staging matches.
Supporters are also urged to maintain social distancing guidelines and avoid congregating outside stadiums or gathering to watch matches, as part of a new campaign message: ‘When we play, please stay away’ ahead of all EFL matches.
The club and the Derbyshire Constabulary are united in one message to fans - support the Rams and 'Watch from Home'.
