Rowett & Wright Separated By Hoult Following Heated Exchange At Highbury
Pictured here is fomer Derby County goalkeeper Russell Hoult keeping Rams defennder Gary Rowett and Arsenal’s Ian Wright apart as tempers flared in a thrilling 2-2 draw at Highbury in December 1996.
The spoils were shared in an entertaining Premiership encounter in North London and the Gunners led at the break thanks to a goal from Tony Adams.
However, Derby turned the game on its head courtesy of a wonder strike Dean Sturridge and a close-range finish from Darryl Powell.
Arsenal did, however, equalise late on through Patrick Vieira to deny Jim Smith’s side what would have been a famous victory.
Both Hoult and Rowett were key members of the squad throughout the 1996/97 campaign and racked up 31 and 35 league appearances respectively.
Hoult racked up 138 appearances in all competitions between 1994 and 1999 while Rowett appeared 120 times between 1995 and 1997.
