It’s all about taking it one game at a time - according to defender Andre Wisdom, who captained Derby County last weekend in their 3-0 home victory over Blackburn Rovers.

The 26-year-old put on the armband for the first time as a Derby player as a first professional goal from Louie Sibley on his full debut, and a double from Rams striker Chris Martin, secured a comfortable victory at Pride Park Stadium.

The win took Derby five points outside the Sky Bet Championship play-off places with nine games remaining.

And momentum is with the Rams having won back-to-back league games and only losing once in their last five games.

Those wins have come convincingly. A 3-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough at the end of February was all-but secured in the opening half an hour of the game as the Rams raced into an early lead, whilst Phillip Cocu's side took a two-goal lead at half-time against Blackburn before Martin rounded off the scoring late on.

Derby travel to The Den this weekend to face Millwall knowing that victory will claw back the three-point deficit between the two sides and put them level on points.

However, Millwall will be a tough test for the Rams, like every game in this division, and Wisdom is fully focused on the game and not looking too far ahead.

“We will try everything we can to try to keep on winning, but I don’t think we are looking into anything like that [the play-offs],” Wisdom told RamsTV ahead of the trip to Millwall.

“We have been inconsistent, especially in our away form, so we just need to concentrate on training and approach each game as though it is the last and try and get the three points.

“In this league, you just need a few wins on the bounce and you change position quickly. We just have to continue the way we are playing at the moment.

“Our performances haven’t always reflected the result in certain games, which we would prefer to be the other way around.

“We would rather play rubbish and nick a 1-0 win instead of playing well and lose. We will keep trying to get points on the board; that is our main objective.”

Since the end of 2019, Derby have proved to be more clinical and ruthless in front of goal.

They have scored in each of their last 14 games in the league and scored 21 goals in their last 10 matches which is the highest in the Sky Bet Championship.

Millwall have one of the better defensive records in the division so it’s set to be a tight affair at The Den this weekend.

“We know what Millwall are about,” Wisdom said. “We played them at home and you can see what they are all about.

“They are very organised and tough to break down but I think we will work on that in training, how to overcome that and approach the game in the correct manner.

“Again, we are looking for the three points.”
