Defender Andre Wisdom admitted there was a sense of disappointment in the Derby County dressing room after being beaten 2-1 by Queens Park Rangers at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium on Tuesday night,
Grant Hall opened the scoring for the R’s on 34 minutes, however, the Rams drew level before the break as Martyn Waghorn’s header found the bottom corner to equalise.
The Rams had chances to take the lead and went close on several occasions, but a counter attacking move saw Mark Warburton’s men claim all three points.
Eberechi Eze picked up a loose pass and skipped over two challenges before feeding Ilias Chair to score from inside the penalty area.
Speaking after the game, Wisdom was clearly disappointed and felt the R’s winner could have been avoided.
“It is a disappointing result,” Wisdom admitted to RamsTV. “We should have dealt with the corner better for the first goal.
“It was a second phase and good finish and for the second goal, we lost possession and should have made a tactical foul in the middle of the park.
“Their player did well to skip away from two people. He is a good player and has good quality and knew someone was probably going to try and foul him so he did well to avoid that.
“Credit to the lads, though, we pushed to the end. We could have even won it. We had some chances and their goalkeeper made a couple of good saves.
“There was maybe some bad finishing from us but we stick together as a team and go again on Saturday with another away game at Sheffield Wednesday.”
Waghorn netted his 12th goal of the campaign in all competitions and his fourth in his last seven games in the first half but could not add to his tally in the second half, despite creating a few chances.
“Waggy had some good chances but we can’t just depend on him to score the goals,” he said. “He has scored today and contributed more than enough throughout the season.
“All he wants to do is score goals and contribute to the team so credit to him for getting the goals.
“On another day, he gets two or three but we all have to chip in with goals and assists and keeping clean sheets at the back.
“There is no blame on him and we take it as a collective and move on to Saturday.”
Saturday sees another away trip for the Rams as they travel to Hillsborough to take on Sheffield Wednesday.
“Every game in the Championship is a tough challenge,” Wisdom admitted. “We know what we are up against and we will have to go away now, recover, study them on Thursday and Friday and go away and try to get three points.”
