Manager Phillip Cocu has provided an update in regards to the fitness of young full back Jayden Bogle.

The defender was forced to miss last night’s Carabao Cup clash against Sky Bet League Two side Scunthorpe United due to an injury picked up against Swansea City on Saturday.

Bogle injured his ankle in the goalless draw at the weekend and the manager revealed he will be out for longer than was originally expected.

“We know a little bit more now,” he told RamsTV. “He will be out for a certain period of time. He will not make it for the next two games so we will have to see how he will be doing day-by-day.

“He is still a young guy so hopefully it will not take too long. It’s a little bit longer than we had expected.”

The manager confirmed afterwards that Bogle would be missing for weeks rather than months. With that in mind, the manager elected to select Max Lowe at right full back during last night’s 0-1 win over the Iron in the Carabao Cup.

“That was also the reason because we knew a little bit more about his situation for Jayden,” he said. “It was good for Max to play one more game on the right side, so he gets used to this position.”

And the games just keep coming for the Rams as they face a tricky test against Stoke City on Saturday. It’s a hectic start to the season for the team and staff.

“It’s a busy schedule but I think it’s okay,” Cocu commented. “We have a day off tomorrow and the players can rest. Some will do extra work and then we will start on Thursday to prepare for the game on Saturday.

“I’m getting used to it. As a player myself, playing games is the best there is so it’s the same way how the players here will experience it.

“We just have to adjust and work alongside the schedule that we have with training sessions, together with the team or in small groups so at the moment it’s going fine and everyone is settling in.”
