Derby County midfielder Tom Huddlestone has had his contract extended until the end of the 2019/20 season.
The 32-year-old re-joined the Rams from Hull City in the summer of 2017, for an undisclosed fee, on a two-year deal.
Huddlestone’s contract included an option to extend by a further 12 months, based on appearances made by the player, and the clause within his deal has now been automatically activated.
Huddlestone, a graduate of the Rams’ youth system, has made 26 appearances so far this season under manager Frank Lampard.
He appeared 47 times in all competitions last season and scored his first-ever goal for the club in February 2018 in a 3-0 home win over Brentford.
East Midlands-born Huddlestone made 95 appearances for the Rams between August 2003 and the summer of 2005, after making his professional debut at the age of 16.
After starring in the Rams’ midfield as a teenager, and securing a spot in the Championship Team of the Year in 2004/05, he joined Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the 2005/06 season.
Following a brief loan stint at Wolverhampton Wanderers, he went on to make 209 appearances for the White Hart Lane outfit during a successful eight-year spell in the capital.
Huddlestone also lifted the first major trophy of his career during his time with Spurs as he came off the bench in their 2-1 League Cup success over Chelsea in 2008, as well as featuring in key UEFA Champions League and Europa League matches.
Huddlestone moved on to pastures new in the summer of 2013 by linking up with Hull City and was part of the Tigers side that reached the 2014 Emirates FA Cup Final.
Following relegation in 2014/15, the midfielder played a key role in Hull’s promotion back to the Premier League from the Championship in 2015/16, secured with a 1-0 play-off final win over Sheffield Wednesday – before moving back to Derby in the summer of 2017.
Huddlestone, who has been capped four times by England at senior level, has made 552 appearances in club football.
