Manager Frank Lampard praised goalkeeper Kelle Roos after he made his league debut for Derby County in the 2-1 home win against Reading on Saturday afternoon.
The Dutch shot-stopper, who played the full 120 minutes in the Rams' FA Cup Third Round replay at Premier League side Southampton in midweek, made his first league start for the Rams since signing for the club in January 2014.
He deputised for Scott Carson, who missed the game through injury, to make his league bow after being limited to cup appearances in a Derby shirt and produced an assured display between the posts.
“Scott had a problem with his knee so it was a decision made best for him to come out of it and spend some time with the medical team, so hopefully it’s no big issue and he will be back soon,” Lampard admitted, speaking to RamsTV.
“The way Kelle played the other day and the way he played today, it’s great for him. We need to know that we have people that can step into all positions and Kelle in goal is no different.
“He showed he can do it in a big environment the other day in the cup game against a Premier League team. Kelle is a confident boy, he works hard, keeps his mouth shut in a good way because number two is not an easy position as a goalkeeper and he keeps working hard.”
Roos, who is 26, has now made nine first-team appearances for Derby, in addition to spending time on loan at Rotherham United, AFC Wimbledon, Bristol Rovers, Port Vale and Plymouth Argyle.
