Prolific striker Jack Marriott has become Derby County’s fourth summer signing, further adding to Frank Lampard’s attacking options for the 2018/19 campaign.
The 23-year-old demanded the attention of Sky Bet Championship sides after scoring 33 goals, including 27 in League One, for Peterborough United last season.
So, how did Marriott get to this point? Here, dcfc.co.uk takes an in-depth look at his career so far…
Background…
Marriott, who was born in Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, began his career at Ipswich Town starting in the youth ranks aged 15. He signed as a scholar in 2011 and quickly showed glimpses of his striking prowess.
His undeniable ability to find the back of the net earned Marriott his first professional contract that he signed at Portman Road in February 2013. His Championship debut came a few months later when he came on as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat to Burnley.
The striker made one other senior appearance for the club, spending the majority of his time on six different loan spells at four different clubs.
Clocking the miles…
Marriott’s loan spells took him around the country with stops at Woking, Gillingham, Carlisle United and Colchester United, honing his craft at both non-league and league clubs.
In his first of three loans stints at Woking, Marriott scored in his debut picking up man of the match honours and went on to score four in his first four games.
From Woking Marriott travelled to Gillingham, although he only made one appearance before being recalled by Ipswich. Then came stops at Carlisle and Colchester.
At the end of the 2014/15 season, Marriott signed a permanent deal with League Two club Luton Town. In two seasons at Kenilworth Road, Marriott scored 28 goals in 91 appearances.
Breakout season…
Having grafted his way through the leagues and learning about himself and the game, the forward came of age at Peterborough last season. He more than doubled any of his previous season goal tallies with 33 total goals which was more than a combined two campaigns at Luton.
The quick and relentless forward racked up 27 League One goals on route to picking up the golden boot and landing on various team of the season lists.
The league player of the year nominee also added five goals in six FA Cup appearances leading Championship sides to take notice.
