“We Talk About improving People’s Lives and That’s What we do on a day to day basis.”

2018 sees the Derby County Community Trust celebrate 10 years as a charity and to mark the occasion we are aiming to raise funds and awareness for our charity.

Delivering a range of diverse programmes, the Community Trust aims to use the power of Derby County Football Club to improve lives through sport, physical activity and education, working with over 17,000 regular people every year.

Having begun as ‘Derby County in the Community’ back in 1994, the aim of the organisation was to give ex-players a pathway into employment and give something back to the community. Delivery mainly focused on going into schools and engaging with the young people of Derby.

After being granted charitable status, April 2008 saw the birth of the Derby County Community Trust. Being the official charitable arm of Derby County gave the Trust an opportunity to extend into new funding streams and develop opportunities within health and social inclusion.

Despite sharing our name and having tremendous support from Derby County Football Club, the Derby County Community Trust exists as an entirely separate entity – meaning we rely on external funding streams and generous support from the community to continue making a difference across Derbyshire and beyond.

The aim is to continue engaging with more and more people. This year will see us host the Derby 10K for the first time following the merge with local charity ‘Sporting Futures’, the event will allow for more unrestricted funds to be brought into the Trust to develop programmes.

Other events will take place across 2018 to raise funds and awareness for the Derby County Community Trust as a charity. This will include a matchday takeover, sponsored sleep out at Pride Park Stadium and the return of last year’s popular Awards Evening.

Simon Carnall, Head of Community at Derby County Community Trust marked the ten years by saying: “Becoming a charity in 2008 was hugely important for us. It allowed us to access new funding streams, to recruit really talented staff and grow.

“The last ten years and the impact our work has had is there for all to see, if you look at what we deliver: cancer recovery, falls prevention, weight management, mental health programmes and disability programmes. We talk about improving people’s lives and that’s what we do on a day to day basis.

“Over the last ten years we’ve had some amazing events, 2015 springs to mind when we won EFL Community Club of the Year. That was recognition on the back of probably five years of amazing work, that was almost the pinnacle to say that this is a brilliant Trust in a brilliant club doing brilliant work.”

Throughout the course of the year we are hoping that Rams fans can help raise more funds and support programmes by donating £10 to mark the 10 year landmark. Visit our JustGiving page to make your donation: justgiving.com/derbycountyitc
