Stephen Warnock starred in both games as Wigan Athletic secured back-to-back wins over the busy Easter schedule to move within one point of top spot in Sky Bet League 1.

The 34-year-old full back started in the Latics’ victories away at Swindon Town (4-1) and 1-0 success over Rochdale on Easter Monday.

The outings were Warnock’s fourth since linking up with Wigan until the end of the season.

There victories, coinciding with Burton Albion’s draw and defeat over Easter, leaves them a point off Nigel Clough’s side with seven games remaining.


Mason Bennett made it second half substitute appearances as the Brewers drew 0-0 with Oldham Athletic and lost 2-0 away at play-off chasing Millwall.

The latter was the young forward’s 13th outing since making the short move to the Pirelli Stadium until the end of the season.

In Sky Bet League 2, Jonathan Mitchell had an ‘inspired’ afternoon at the weekend as he helped Luton Town to a standout 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle – a result and performance, which earned him a place in the Football League’s Team of the Week.

Luton, however, followed that up with a 2-1 loss at Barnet on Monday, which keeps the Hatters firmly in midtable.

The latest outings took him to five for Luton since linking up with the club until the end of the current campaign.

Kelle Roos also featured over the weekend as AFC Wimbledon fell to a narrow 1-0 loss at Hartlepool United, his tenth appearance of his temporary stay with the club.

Neal Eardley’s side were forced to wait to set the record straight after their home game against Portsmouth on Monday was postponed.

In the Vanarama National League, Shaquille McDonald made his second league start for FC Halifax Town as they fell to a 4-1 defeat to Barrow.

The young forward, who returned from a five-day tour of Lisbon with the Rams’ Under 21 group in the early hours of Saturday, turned out as a substitute on the same day as the Shaymen defeated Altrincham.

He backed that up with a start on Monday, but departed prematurely after sustaining a head injury.

Elsewhere, Conor Sammon was an unused substitute as Sheffield United defeated Crewe Alexandra 3-2 over the weekend.
