FACT FILE:Derby County’s new Head Coach’s journey into coaching started at the age of 23 after cutting his playing career short.Born into a footballing family, Clement only played at non-league level at which he turned out for Banstead Athletic and Corinthian Casuals.Before undertaking his coaching badges Wandsworth-born coach achieved a degree in Sports Science at St Mary’s College in Twickenham.Clement held a job as a PE Teacher for five years at Glenthorne High School in Sutton, Surrey, whilst he worked at Chelsea’s centre of excellence on a part-time basis.Obtained his UEFA A Licence in 1999.Became a full time coach a year later after being appointed as Head of Education and Welfare by Fulham to work within their Academy, whilst he also worked alongside Don Givens coaching Republic of Ireland’s Under 21 set up – a role he held for three years.Clement returned to the Chelsea set-up in 2007 to work with their Under 16 squad.The Coach progressed through the ranks for two years to work alongside Guus Hiddink and the first team squad.Clement was part of the first team coaching staff that went on to lift the FA Cup in 2009.After the Dutch coach left, Clement was retained by Carlo Ancelotti and worked as his assistant during his two year spell at Stamford Bridge.During this spell, Chelsea went on to lift the Community Shield, the Barclays Premier League title and FA Cup.After the Italian left, Clement ended his long standing affiliation with Chelsea and became Assistant Coach to Steve Kean at Blackburn Rovers.Clement stayed at Ewood Park for two months before Ancelotti moved to appoint the Englishman as his Assistant in his new venture with Paris St Germain.In their second season in the French Capital, the pair led PSG to the Ligue 1 title.Clement was asked to follow Ancelotti for a third time as the Italian appointed him as his Assistant at Real Madrid.The pair, again, enjoyed a hugely successful period in Spain as Madrid went on to lift the Copa del Rey title as well as the much sought after UEFA Champions League title for the tenth time in the club’s history.In his second season, Ancelotti and Clement led Madrid to UEFA Super Cup and World Club Championship titles – their third and fourth titles in their two year stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.Since starting out full time in 2000, Clement completes a 15 year journey and takes his first full time leading coaching position role with Derby County.
