Derby Move To Sign Rob Lee & Warren Barton In Double Transfer Swoop
Pictured here are Rob Lee and Warren Barton posing for the cameras after completing the formalities of their moves to Derby County in early 2002.
The pair joined from Newcastle United under John Gregory’s management as the newly-appointed Derby boss sought to add valuable experience to the squad to help the Rams in their fight against relegation.
Despite being regulars following their arrivals the pair, who arrived with senior England caps to their names, were unable to help Gregory’s side preserve their top-flight status.
Both Lee and Barton remained with the club following relegation and were key members of the side in the 2002/03 campaign back in the First Division.
Midfielder Lee made 50 appearances in total, scoring twice, before leaving in the summer of 2003 to join West Ham United.
Defender Barton recorded 56 appearances in all competitions and left Derby to join Queens Park Rangers in October 2003.
