Poom Looks On As Derby Turn On The Style In The Driving Rain Against Sheffield Wednesday

Pictured here is former Derby County goalkeeper Mart Poom in action during the 3-0 home win over Sheffield Wednesday in February 1998.

Poom, who was a popular figure amongst supporters throughout his time at the club, kept in a clean sheet in the game with Paulo Wanchope’s double and a strike from Gary Rowett firing Jim Smith’s side to victory in the driving rain.

The Rams went on to finish 9th in the Premiership table in the 1997/98 campaign, with Poom starting 36 of their 38 league fixtures.

Poom, who joined Derby in 1997, made 166 appearances for the Rams across six seasons in the top-flight and half of a season in the First Division before joining Sunderland in 2003.
