Wayne Rooney is in line to make his Derby County debut in Thursday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Barnsley at Pride Park Stadium - and ahead of his first Rams appearance a special documentary is to be aired on Premier League World.


The 34-year-old will officially join Derby as a player from the start of the January transfer window from Major League Soccer outfit DC United, on an initial 18-month contract until the summer of 2021, with the option of a further year.

The 30-minute documentary, titled ‘Premier League World: Wayne Rooney’ charts his path from being a youngster at Everton right the way through to linking up with Derby, while also sharing his hopes and aspirations for the future.

Also featured are interviews with manager Phillip Cocu, as well as Liam Rosenoir, Shay Given from the Dutchman’s coaching staff, as well as first-team quartet Jayden Bogle, Jason Knight, Curtis Davies and Krystian Bielik.

Supporters can watch the documentary on Sky Sports PL from 7pm on Wednesday 1st January, with repeats airing at 9pm and 11pm on the same day and 5pm, 7pm and 9pm on Thursday 2nd January and 7pm and 9pm on Friday 3rd January.

As well as penning a playing contract with Derby, England and Manchester United’s all-time leading goalscorer is joining the club as a coach and continue to develop his coaching credentials in preparation for a potential managerial career.

Rooney, who scored 53 times in 120 appearances for his country, is joining Derby having won an incredible 16 honours in club football to date and with over 700 appearances and 300 goals to his name in club football, including a record 253 for Manchester United, Rooney is one of the biggest and most recognisable names in world football.
